The Road Home

“I am a child of the church who has come back home.”

My father is a minister. My grandfather was a minister. My uncles are ministers. I grew up in a church — church life is what I have always known.

I didn’t have a church until my children started to come here with my uncle. I visited. And what kept me here? The community. The church community. That’s what kept me here.

What He Does

“I am whatever is needed at the time.”

I am with the church and the school, but I am not a teacher. I am whatever is needed at the time. Whatever is needed, that’s what I will do — within the realm of what God allows.

I don’t consider titles important — not in the work of Christ. I’m not so enamored with titles.

What He Found Here

“We are a band of misfits.”

If you’ve been to a lot of churches, you’ll know there’s a lot of — it’s almost religion, but not church, you understand? You can step into a big church and see everything well-run, things being done, a big well-oiled machine. But there’s no community.

“Here there’s a community.”

Everything we do here is to further God — and God is constantly defying my expectations. [wording from notes — verify]

I am God’s child, just like you. I am one of his kids — one of his children.

“I am a retired soldier, first-generation Haitian-American, and this is my home. Welcome to our home.
